A novel compact electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure adopting a coplanar spiral inductor is presented and investigated. This structure significantly enlarges the inductance between neighboring elements and makes the relative bandwidth wider. The simulations results have proved that the period size of the structure is only 0.08lambda0 at the desired band-gap frequency, synchronously the relative bandwidth is held at 27.2%.
