This study presents a novel embedded Linux-based mobile router with a network mobility architecture that promotes the telematics Internet services anywhere. Each mobile node in the mobile IP mechanism has to process the handoff procedure; however, the proposed mobile router can process handoff procedures for more mobile nodes simultaneously. Network performance in terms of round-trip time (RTT) and handoff latency is investigated. Improvement to packet loss with the embedded-based mobile router is 36% and average RTT is decreased by approximately 34%. Based on handoff latency analysis, it has superior performance using the mobile network with the embedded mobile router when there are more than two mobile nodes.
