This paper presents a simulator for Wireless Sensor Networks, whose novel feature is the capability of evaluating the consumption of energy, taking into account the operating hardware as well as the embedded software. The simulator was developed with basis on barrier synchronization, which is an appropriate technique to implement an accurate management of signal propagation timing as well as a detailed description and of each one of the involved hardware component, software protocol and environmental behavior. Preliminary tests have shown that the resulting software is a valuable aid to design and evaluate energy efficient WSN.
