A novel broadband electromagnetic band-gap (EBG) structure is presented using multi-period mushroom-like structure with different patch size cascaded. Direct transmission method is used to determine the band-gap of the EBG structure. The effects of the unit number and patch size on the mushroomlike EBG structure are investigated. Two kinds of unit with different patch size are cascaded to enlarge the band-gap of EBG structure, which achieves almost 87.1%. The simulation results show that the band-gap almost covers the stop-band produced by the two uniform configurations with different patch size respectively.
