This paper proposes a power-aware adaptive dynamic routing scheme (PADR) for ad hoc networks to conserve energy, maximize the lifetime of its nodes and thus the network itself. PADR could balance the energy consumption of the network and prolong the lifetime of heavily loaded nodes. It could also improve throughput by avoiding lots of source route rebuilding, reduce the transmission delay of end-to-end and thus prolong the lifetime of the network. Through simulation, it is shown to be capable of outperforming some traditional source routing protocols.
