An efficient membership management protocol is proposed named Gomcast (gossip-based overlay multicast). Most traditional gossip solutions work well in small-scale settings, but suffer drastic reduction in reliability and performance at larger scales for reasons of global knowledge required, high overhead and lack of flexibility. Several mechanisms are exploited in this paper to provide node a stable partial view: 1) growing model following power-law distribution with preferential connectivity 2) push-pull gossip mechanism and 3) a DHT-based heartbeat optimization. The experiment results show that the proposed scheme has better performance in large scale.
