The bias and wavelength dependent modulation characteristics of the photonic up-conversion in a multiple quantum well (MQW)-electroabsorption modulator (EAM) are characterized for 60-GHz radio-on-fiber applications. The proposed photonic up-conversion method is based on the wavelength conversion technique using a crossabsorption modulation in the MQW-EAM. The pilot tone at 1.508 GHz is used for the up-conversion verification that generates the upper- and the lower-sideband signals at 64.258 and 61.242 GHz. The maximum modulation depth is obtained for -0.8 V bias and the 1550-nm probe wavelength. It shows the 8 and 2-dB deviations for 30-nm ranges of the probe and pump wavelength, respectively.
