In this paper, we study the cooperative data transmissions in distributed wireless sensor networks (WSNs) based on the grid cluster model. We propose a cooperative data transmission scheme by neighboring cluster head. We assume that the nodes are clustered through cluster-based routing protocol and the cluster head is selected in WSNs. The source node transmits data to base station (BS) or sink node by the cooperation of surrounding cluster heads, which exploits the diversity performance and saves the energy of the network. Simulation results show that the scheme can obtain significant diversity gains and energy saving and hence improve the network lifetime of the WSNs.
