The construction of virtual 3D scene is mostly based on VRML/X3D methods, which lacks the ability to dynamically modified, to customize, to reuse and to extend. In accordance with the features of digital science museum, the paper discusses the database- driven descriptive model of scene based on X-VRML. The model adopts the principle of dividing scene, and it is supported by the structure of scene and the storage of attribute information. According to the level, the model is constructed. Primary elements of scene are customized in structure, semantics and style by X-VRML schema. In consequence, model-description documents of X-VRML are formed. Mixed architecture both server side and client side is used to eventually generate instances of 3D scenes.
