Based on CML estimation, a novel synchronization algorithm is proposed for IR-UWB system, which includes three improved schemes: Frame-level noise suppression (FNS), noise template cross-correlation estimation (NTCE) and slide correlation search (SCS). FNS and NTCE can largely improve the performance of synchronization in the condition of low SNR, while SCS lowers the error floor in the condition of high SNR. Both mathematical analysis and simulation indicate that each proposed scheme could achieve the expected optimization of performance.
