The idea of the PLC integration with UMTS is to achieve the connection of UMTS entities through PLC links. PLC can be very interesting in particular in Micro-Node B scenarios. Another application is to use -vice versa-UMTS as PLC backhaul. Integrated subscription for UMTS and PLC services appears also as a very interesting business models in areas where PLC is commercially rolled-out.
