Computing local minima and maxima of digital images in pipeline image processing systems equipped with hardware comparators

An efficient technique is presented for computing minima (maxima) values of gray levels of pixels within rectangular windows. It is suitable for pipeline image processing systems having processors equipped with hardware comparators. The complexity of computing the minima and/or maxima of gray levels within M*N windows is determined.<
