A new method for prediction of rain attenuation is proposed that uses the complete rainfall rate distribution as input data and the concepts of effective path length and rainfall rate. Measured data, from both tropical and temperate regions, are used for comparative tests that show significant improvement over the method recommended by the ITU-R and the Crane method.
