This paper presents an improved design based on stepped-impedance slots and stripline resonators that can overcome the size limitation and produce dense arrays with wide-scan capability. Measurements of a Ku-band array based on this type of element show a low loss scanning capability in both E- and H-planes (< 4.3 dB for the beam scanned to plusmn45deg) with an efficiency of more than 45%.
