A method is introduced for the subdivision of an arbitrary polygon into triangular elements. The boundary line is first divided and a procedure to form the interior nodes follows. A self-adaptive mesh is achieved wherein each invalid element is being modified automatically. Some examples are given to show the spatial structure of the mesh. Other techniques that will make it easier to tackle many problems are given, namely, mesh refinement, mesh combination, mesh movement, and a technique for periodical structures
