The paper deals through modeling, numerical simulations and experimental research with the multi-cellular artificial organisms, with the purpose to design and experimentation of digital systems with abilities of biological organisms (evolution capabilities, self-organization, and fault-tolerance). From theoretical point of view, concepts from cellular embryology are used for VLSI digital systems design and development. The paper is focused in founding researches regarding original models elaboration of artificial cell, and simulation of its functions and complex interaction phenomena between those in a bi-dimensional network structure. The final purpose is the design and experimenting of a bio-inspired hardware system (embryonic machine), with programmable FPGA arrays, on which is possible the study and experimentation of basic properties of living organisms.
