Scattering characteristics of rectangular grooves in a parallel-plate waveguide are analyzed and optimized using an overlapping T-block method and a genetic algorithm. The total Ez and Hz fields for a waveguide are represented with summation of those of four overlapping T-blocks by means of superposition. Insertion loss behaviors versus frequency are computed and compared with measurement results.
