This paper deals with performance of positioning in GSM networks based on received signal strength (RSS) measurements. Each mobile station (MS) collects RSS measurements of the downlink control channels transmitted by the surrounding base stations. These measurements can be used to obtain the MS location by means of calculating algorithm. We examine the accuracy of adaptive geometric and least square algorithms by circular error probability (CEP). Although accuracy of RSS positioning is not excellent, the initial costs are minimal. This is the advantage of RSS based positioning.
