This paper identifies some essential features of any statistical model for analyzing software failure data. A model for incorporating dependence among the detection times of the errors is proposed and several reliability measures are calculated. The maximum likelihood estimator of the initial number of errors in a software is derived and inherent difficulties in estimating the correlation from standard debugging data are discussed.
