Although Carnegie-Mellon University (CMU) is a mediumsized, highly engineering-oriented school, it has achieved international stature in selected areas of optics education and research. This paper reviews the graduate education programs in optics at CMU, together with the available course offerings and the research and emerging multidisciplinary optics-oriented activities.
