The performance of time-hopping pulse position amplitude modulation (PPAM) for an ultra-wideband (UWB) communication system over fading channels is investigated based on the multipath fading statistics of UWB indoor wireless channels. Frequency selective fading is considered for a multiple access environment, using a Gaussian approximation based on a single user mode. Error probability expressions are derived from a signal to noise ratio (SNR) perspective for different fading scenarios. The error probability results are verified by Monte Carlo simulation.
