An integrated `design-to-manufacture' information system is described. NC programs for sheet metal piercing, machining, printed circuit board (PCB) drilling, and automatic component insertion are generated automatically by postprocessing CAD data. The programs are then distributed electronically to the factory via an engineering database computer. There is a management system for control and release of data, with links to the MRP computer. Further software is used to optimise work schedules
