We present an adaptive restoration algorithm to effectively restore an image degraded by additive white Gaussian noise using local statistics and directional gradient information in the spatial domain. The proposed algorithm is a modified Lee algorithm considered to compensate its drawback that little noise is removed at edge regions even though the edges are well preserved. Experimental results show better performance than for conventional algorithms.
