A novel fibre-optic ring resonator which exhibits a highly wavelength-selective input reflection coefficient is proposed. The input reflection is caused by a wave which circulates in the opposite direction as the input wave. The reverse circulating wave is excited by an intermediate waveguide section in the closed fibre ring.
