An alternative version of the phase-correlation algorithm for image registration is presented. It is based on consideration of an N2 elements 1-D vector instead of an N × N pixel matrix. While the total number of operations does not change, this organisation lends itself to a straightforward hardware implementation, which is less demanding in terms of memory performance.
