A volume holographic grating in iron-doped lithium niobate has been demonstrated as a novel infra-red selective filter to produce stable single-mode output from a semiconductor laser operating at 1.55 ¿m. Preliminary results show that a ~16 dB adjacent-mode rejection ratio can be obtained.
