The outline of an approach for image data compression using a 2-D lattice predictor is presented. Preliminary results indicate that acceptable quality images (quantised to 15 levels) at information rates, bit rates and signal/noise ratios ranging, respectively, from 1.16 to 1.38 bpp, 1.19 to 1.40 bpp and 20.6 to 22.5 dB have been obtained for lattice stages 1 to 5.
