A comparison is made between theoretical and experimental values of the beamwidth of a d.h. injection laser. The importance of the obliquity factor is pointed out. The good agreement between theory and experiment permits the determination of material properties from laser-diode measurements. Further, mirror reflection coefficients for lasers immersed in different liquids are calculated. Marked differences in the values of the Fresnel reflection coefficients, for normal incidence, are found.
