Theoretical results are presented for the effect of linear scale factor on the alignment accuracy of two 1-dimensional random signals. For the low-signal/noise-ratio Gaussian correlation function, the optimum resolution is obtained as T|¿|/¿6, where T is the map length and ¿ is the fractional scale-factor error.
