In this paper, a novel code acquisition algorithm called the improved multiple-shift (IMS) is proposed using optical orthogonal code (OOC) in optical code division multiple access (CDMA) systems. The IMS algorithm has similar process; yet better code acquisition performance compared with the conventional MS algorithm. We analyze the code acquisition performance of the IMS algorithm and compare the performance of the IMS algorithm with that of the MS algorithm, in the single user and multi-user environments via simulation.
