This work presents a graphical framework POLYGON which can aid the process of the control software development for critical industrial automation tasks. Providing convenience for the software development based on functional block diagrams the system still allows to achieve small control period times of regulation (e.g. 10 ms for a steam-turbine regulator). The generated program has a simple but flexible structure and carries out the duties of the operational system. Application of the system to a number of projects carried out by PromAvtomatika during the passed 7 years showed that is allows to decrease the development time and increase the reliability of the system. Moreover, the software development can be handled by a technologist. Examples of the POLYGON successful applications in the areas of power engineering, metal industry, and others, are presented.
