In this paper, a modified passivity-based controller for switched reluctance motor, which includes speed and load torque estimators, is proposed. The SRM has been decoupled into electrical and mechanical passive sub-systems and the passivity-based controller was designed accordingly. The position and speed are estimated using sliding mode observer and the load torque is detected based on a Luenberger observer. The estimated load torque is embedded in the control action law. The proposed SR drive achieves satisfactory torque and speed tracking, as simulation results show
