Link layer triggers are crucial for performing fast handovers, but they are hard to be implemented in a real wireless system. In this paper we give a general method to implement link layer triggers and evaluate their effect on fast handovers for mobile IPv6 (FMIPvo) in a real 802.11 based test-bed. The experimental results show that the performance of FMIPv6 can achieve significant improvements with our link layer triggers.
