A fast partial distortion search motion estimation algorithm based on search centre prediction is proposed. A search centre prediction scheme is first exploited and, based on it, two schemes of reducing computation complexity are presented, including early search termination and halfway search stop. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve from 14 to 161 times speedup compared to the full search algorithm, while maintaining similar visual quality
