A variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) based on Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) has some advantages and better integration characteristics comparing with fixed speed wind turbine. On the basis of existing models of main components of wind turbine in the model library of PSCAD/EMTDC, the control system of VSWT is established in this paper. Furthermore, taking a kind of prevailing wind turbine for an example, a simulation study was carried out. The results show that the performance of wind turbine using the developed control system can meet the technical requirements given by the wind turbine manufactures.
