When traditional analytical reliability algorithms are applied to actual large-scale distribution system, the network information input and maintenance burden are enormous and the computation is time consuming. In this paper a novel algorithm is developed in specific to Chinese distribution network structures for the fast and approximate evaluation of system reliability indices. Simplification assumptions and formulas for reliability indices calculation are developed and introduced in the paper. The algorithm is adaptive to both overhead and cable system and the effects of alternative path as well as its supply capacity limitation are considered. The network data demands and computation burden of the proposed method are greatly reduced. Specially designed tests and practical applications confirm the correctness and the feasibility of the algorithm.
