The Effect of Subsynchronous Current on a a Static Mho Type Distance Relay

Several large electric utilities in the western United States have installed series capacitors on their transmission systems. With series compensation, currents at subsynchronous frequencies can be generated by faults or system switching. This paper examines the effect of subsynchronous current on a static mho type distance relay.
