Recently, cellular-phones and hearing aids have been getting smaller and more functional. There is a demand for the development of a noise removal system to acquire comfortable sounds in real-life sound environments in which various noises are intermingled. The adaptive line enhancer (ALE), one of the applications of an adaptive digital filter, can extract only periodic signals from signals containing non-periodic noise. However, the ALE does not work well when applied to signals containing pulse noise. In this study, in order to improve this drawback of the ALE, a new de-noising method is proposed which combines the complex discrete wavelet transform (CDWT) with the ALE.
