In this work, a network based on wireless sensor network has been developed to monitor streetlight power cable. The sensor nodes mount on the streetlight pole and detect the cable voltage. Once a sensor node finds the voltage gone, it sends alarm information to the transformer station over other sensor nodes and then transmits to the control center through GPRS network. The central computer processes it and displays the results on geographical map. The operators take actions according to alarming node position. The sensor node hardware and software were designed and the control center software also was developed. The system applied to streetlight department can find the cable stolen and thus reduce the property loss. The wireless sensor network designed in this application can also be used in simulate application such as the streetlight monitoring and control.
