A New Design Approach to Digitally Tuned Radio Receivers

A novel systems appoach to the design of modern radio receiver is presented. Main directions of 'SYSTEM 1000' research program on a new family of integrated circuits for radio receivers are discussed on the example of adaptation of the 'pseudoclosed loop' technique for FM tuner design. Several FM receiver design options are analyzed, including automatic station search and band scanning circuits, Weather Band front-end design, automatic tuning control and frequency displaying techniques based on 'SYSTEM 1000' family.
