Wireless ad hoc networks require a complex resource management to efficiently exploit the networks resources due to the shared nature of the medium. The spatial reuse highly determines the network capacity, which can be increased through power control techniques. In this paper we propose and evaluate through simulation a MAC structure based on the adhoc MAC protocol. The actual interference produced by all the transmitting terminals is taken into account. In this scenario, we propose a solution to guarantee the reliability of the protocol. Moreover, we take advantage of the signaling information distributed by the adhoc MAC protocol to carry out an interference-aware power control scheme for the point-to-point data communications
