Mathematical morphology is one of the processing methods which can be performed on images for echocardiographic tissue characterization. This study assessed the ability of differentiation between rejection and no rejection after cardiac transplantation by measuring morphological and texture parameters. For this purpose on-line digitized echocardiograms were processed and analysed. Significant differences in segmented speckle parameters, measured in unprocessed and morphologically processed echocardiograms, were observed. When rejection occurred, the area and perimeter of segmented structures increased. Texture parameters lose significance in describing myocardial structure if measured in morphological processed images
