Analysis of the characteristics of a fiber-optic ring resonator used as a Brillouin active delay line

This paper investigates the characteristics of a fiber-optic ring resonator delay line illuminated by a monochromatic pump laser and a single monochromatic pulse of backward Stokes radiation. The amplitude stability of the output Stokes pulse trains is found to depend on laser pump power, laser phase coherence and the relative timing between the input of the Stokes and pump radiation. It is suggested that a Brillouin active delay line should be more stable than the corresponding Raman active delay line.<
