This report has the purpose to open the horizon of business management which deals with a management information system. It is reported the utilization of modern techniques like process of re engineering, software re engineering, CASE tools and prototype making as well as incursions in the information engineering and knowledge engineering through the use of DSS (decision support system). Evolution of information systems for industrial automation in Brazil is reported. The development of a model is very complex and involves several techniques: data collection starting with functions, collecting definitions using the knowledge of administrative managers of the business of the enterprise, etc. Therefore we make a preliminary distinction of the activities in the point of view of global planning of an information system applied to automation
