The evaluation of system efficiency on the non-uniform traffic distribution in microcell systems is discussed. The relation between traffic nonuniformity and cell size is considered, and the influence of traffic nonuniformity on frequency division multiple access/time division multiple access (FDMA/TDMA) and code division multiple access (CDMA) systems is evaluated. It is clarified that making the cell size smaller causes the conspicuous appearance of traffic nonuniformity. Concerning CDMA systems, a transmitter power control method is proposed which can solve the above problem, and estimation simulation shows that the proposed method can eliminate the deterioration of system efficiency due to traffic nonuniformity
