The authors present some simple detection procedures and algorithms for TV security systems implemented on a standard PC for detection and localization of targets. The approach is based on motion detection and target identification procedures suitable for fast and efficient image processing on relatively simple hardware. Both the classical approach (spatiotemporal filtering) and a neural-network-oriented alternative (Kohonen map) are discussed
