The authors review several areas in which microwave components and/or systems have been integrated with digital electronics to provide enhanced performance of the microwave hardware or functions which were previously unattainable. Several areas in which this combined microwave/digital technology is already being used or in which usage is proposed are discussed. Particular attention is given to the application of this combined technology to high-speed logic, measurement equipment, electronic countermeasures, computer-aided design, radars and adaptive systems, digital radio, and automated production testing. In addition, specific applications of digital enhancement to microwave attenuation, a phase shifter, and oscillators are presented.<>
