A scaled mean-square-error (SMSE) filter is proposed for image filtering. By exponentially de-emphasising the correlation, the oversmooth phenomenon associated with the well known MMSE filter is effectively alleviated. A vector processing algorithm is also introduced for fast implementation of the proposed filter in the spatial domain
