A theoretical investigation of evanescent coupling between an optical fiber and a slab waveguide with an asymmetric geometry is presented. The characteristics of right propagation and coupling are obtained through numerical calculations based on simplified coupled-mode and compound-mode equations and found to be highly dependent not only on the relative values of refractive index of the fiber core and slab, as shown in previous work, but also on the asymmetry of the slab waveguide configuration
