To compute inrush currents in a three phase transformer, a transformer magnetic model coupled with circuit equations is needed. In this paper, we compare a permeance network model and a 2D finite element one. The precision of a model for the inrush current computation is equal to its accuracy concerning the calculation of the winding current with enforced winding flux values. To evaluate this accuracy, we have taken, as reference values, the values computed by means of a 3D finite element model. We conclude that the permeance network model accuracy is about 30%, while the 2D model accuracy is 140%. Finally the inrush currents are calculated using the permeance network model and compared to experimental measurements. The measured inrush current wave shape matches well with the numerical one
